Ep. 217: The Medieval Art of Sword Fighting (Video)

Fantasy has never been more popular. Game of Thrones, The Lord of the Rings, and even the Harry Potter series has made sword and sorcery commonplace. For the sci-fi fans out there, the Star Wars movies are filled with Jedi lightsaber battles, complete with the same parries, thrusts, and disarms found on the medieval battlefield. It is so ubiquitous that any kid will pick up a stick or long cardboard tube and start swinging it around like a knight of the round table. What I am trying to say is that we all love swords, but not as much as Guy Windsor who is a world class swordsman and scholar.  He even has a sizable collection of ancient manuscripts detailing the art of traditional sword fighting.  We discuss his rare library collection, as well as his ability to create his own wooden covers to protect them.  We also get into his obsession with a Getty manuscript, how one defines a buckler, and are treated to a rare trumpet performance that would inspire troops from any era into battle.
