The popularity of (American) football in America can’t be overstated: Even by rough estimates, it’s a bazillion dollar industry, and when on television, it is the most watched event in the time slot. It is also almost solely a United States thing, which I totally understand. The rules can be a little difficult to follow, and unfortunately they seem to change from year to year. Also the positions are not as clear cut as in other popular sports. Everyone knows what a baseball pitcher does, or what a basketball center is good at, but do you have any idea what a football tight end does? Probably not, but the short answer is “everything”. Luckily this week I have author Tyler Dunne on the show to talk about his new book “The Blood and Guts“, which is all about the tight end position. We will break down why the position is important, and how it encapsulates the entire sport. We also will talk about how Tyler was almost named “Rocco”, where he spent his college football career, and how Gumby influenced his decision to root for the Packers.
