Ep. 209: The Science of Stephen King

Given that Stephen King’s career spans 6 decades and hundreds of stories, chances are you have read one in your lifetime.  You might even have a favorite.  His horror stories usually have a supernatural element to them, but that does not make them exempt from scientific scrutiny.  Author Meg Hafdahl is known as a fiction writer, but along with her co-author Kelly Florence, decided to look at King’s works from a scientific standpoint.  Her book address several questions:  What is it about clowns that makes Pennywise so terrifying?  What are the effects of rabies on Cujo?  Is there a multiverse associated with the Dark Tower series?  Could a virus wipe out 99.9% of the population like in The Stand?  This week Meg and I discuss these possibilities, as well as Astral Projection, MK ULTRA, and her husband, the Brewmaster.
